Apples for Prevention Campaign
According to the adage, an apple a day keeps the doctor away.
Research says it also helps keep cancer away.
Apples can help fight cancer in at least three ways. First, they are high in fiber, which can bind up as much as 20 times their weight in bowel toxins. Second, researchers at Cornell have discovered that not only the apple fiber but also the apple skin is protective against cancer. Phytonutrients known as triterpenoids have powerful anti-cancer properties, with potent anti-proliferative activity against human liver, colon and breast cancer cells (Journal of Agicultural and Food Chemistry, June 2007).
The third way apples can help fight cancer is by supporting BeatCancer.org through our Apples for Prevention project. Our first campaign, in cooperation with local banks, is our "Bank to Beat Cancer" crusade. You can help in your own community and it's so easy!
All you need to do is approach your local branch manager, say you are a supporter of BeatCancer.org and ask him or her to support the campaign. There is no cost to the bank (unless it chooses to match public donations). Tellers simply invite bankers to donate any amount they wish for cancer prevention, in exchange for which they get their name on a paper "post-it" apple which gets posted in the bank for the duration of the campaign.
We supply the paper apples and the crusade flyer for placement on branch doors and at teller windows. The branch manager can just put the donations in a large envelope for you to pick up at the end of the campaign.
Once the branch decides on a campagn period (one week to one month), email the contact person's information, the start and end dates, and the approximate number of apples your bank can "sell" to Maria at MFiorello@BeatCancer.org.
Apples for Prevention is adaptable for any type of institution, so if you know of another business unrelated to the banking industry that would be willing to run such a campaign, let us hear from you!
