About the Hungry for Health Patch Program

In our efforts to reach younger Americans, who now have a one-in-two lifetime risk of cancer, and teach them potentially life-altering health and nutrition information, BeatCancer.org is proud to offer a new patch program for Girl Scouts! This patch program is designed to provide scouts of all ages an opportunity to learn about the importance of healthy eating and to prepare nutritious dishes that are simple and delicious.

The patch project guide, prepared by Girl Scout leader and BeatCancer.org intern Melissa DeSantis, will help Girl Scouts to learn about up-to-date healthy eating habits and proper cooking procedures. By completing the required activities, girls of all ages will have fun learning and cooking healthy meals from Hungry for Health, BeatCancer.org’s signature cookbook for healthy eating.

The guide has activities that have the Scouts learning about MyPlate, the newest government nutrition recommendations, and an overview of the food groups. The guide also has the girls thinking about healthy activities and eating habits. The service project includes teaching and preparing healthy recipes from the cookbook.

The 18 activities throughout this guide are divided by level. In order to earn the Hungry for Health patch, girls must complete all of the activities for their level. The levels are divided into Daisy, Brownie, Junior and Older Girls.

Each kit contains a 20-page patch guide and a 217-page nutrition /recipe book with 157 simple, healthy recipes. The cost for each kit is $20, plus $1 for each 3-color sew-on patch plus shipping.
